Stand on the Roof of Africa

Join us for an unforgettable journey to the summit of Mount
Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and one of the world’s most
iconic trekking destinations.

Our expedition follows the Northern Circuit Route,
Kilimanjaro’s longest and most scenic route. Beginning on the western
side of the mountain near Lemosho Gate, the trail crosses the
spectacular Shira Plateau before continuing around the quieter and more
remote northern slopes of Kilimanjaro.

The Northern Circuit’s extended itinerary and gradual elevation
profile provide valuable time for acclimatization before the final
ascent to Uhuru Peak at 19,340 feet.

This carefully planned adventure includes professional mountain
guides, porters, meals, camping accommodations, park fees, transfers and
hotel accommodations in Moshi.

Why Choose the Northern
Circuit?

The Northern Circuit is an excellent choice for trekkers seeking a
scenic, less-crowded and more gradual route to the summit.

The route offers:

  • A longer itinerary that supports gradual acclimatization
  • Remote trails along Kilimanjaro’s northern slopes
  • Spectacular views across the Shira Plateau
  • Diverse environments ranging from rainforest to alpine desert
  • A summit approach designed around the “climb high, sleep low”
    acclimatization principle
  • A more intimate experience away from Kilimanjaro’s busiest
    routes

Because the group is limited to only 10 participants, trekkers can
expect a more personal experience and greater support from the mountain
team.

July 2, 2027

Moshi to Lemosho Gate
to Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast and a final briefing, we will drive approximately
three hours to Lemosho Park Gate.

From the gate, a four-wheel-drive vehicle will take us deeper into
the Lemosho Glades. Our trek begins along forest trails surrounded by
the lush vegetation of Kilimanjaro’s lower elevations.

We will continue through the montane forest to Mti Mkubwa
Camp
, also known as Big Tree Camp.

Starting elevation: 6,000 feet Ending
elevation:
 8,700 feet Distance: Approximately
4 miles Hiking time: 2–3 hours
Habitat: Montane forest Meals: Lunch
and dinner

July 3, 2027

Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1
Camp

After breakfast, the trail gradually becomes steeper as we leave the
forest and enter the giant heather and moorland zone.

We will cross several streams, climb over the Shira Ridge and then
descend gently to Shira 1 Camp, located near a stream on the Shira
Plateau.

The open plateau introduces trekkers to dramatic mountain landscapes
and expansive views.

Starting elevation: 8,700 feet Ending
elevation:
 11,500 feet Distance: Approximately
5 miles Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Moorland Meals: Breakfast,
lunch and dinner

July 4, 2027

Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Today’s journey is a gentle hike across the Shira Plateau to Shira 2
Camp, situated among moorland meadows near a stream.

Depending on conditions and the group’s progress, optional hikes may
be available toward Shira Peak or the Shira Cathedral.

The day’s moderate pace and elevation gain provide an excellent
opportunity for acclimatization.

Starting elevation: 11,500 feet Ending
elevation:
 12,600 feet Distance: Approximately
5 miles Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Habitat: Moorland Meals: Breakfast,
lunch and dinner

July 5, 2027

Shira 2 Camp to Moir
Hut via Lava Tower

We will trek toward Lava Tower and the distinctive Shark’s Tooth rock
formation at approximately 15,000 feet.

After reaching Lava Tower, we will spend time acclimatizing and enjoy
a hot lunch before joining the Northern Circuit and descending to Moir
Camp.

This is an important acclimatization day because we will climb to a
higher elevation before descending to sleep at a lower altitude.

This approach is commonly described as:

Climb High, Sleep Low

Highest elevation: Approximately 15,000 feet
Sleeping elevation: Approximately 13,780 feet
Distance: Approximately 8 miles Hiking
time:
 5–7 hours Habitat: Alpine desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

July 6, 2027

Moir Hut Camp to Buffalo
Camp

The day begins with a moderately steep climb out of Moir Valley.

Depending on conditions and the group’s progress, an optional hike to
the summit of Little Lent Hill at approximately 14,350 feet may be
available.

We will then return to the Northern Circuit trail and follow a series
of ascents and descents around the northern slopes of Kibo before
arriving at Buffalo Camp.

This remote portion of the route offers expansive views and a quieter
experience than many of Kilimanjaro’s more heavily traveled trails.

Starting elevation: 13,780 feet Ending
elevation:
 13,188 feet Distance: Approximately
6 miles Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Alpine desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

July 7, 2027

Buffalo Camp to Third Cave

We will begin the day by climbing Buffalo Ridge before descending and
continuing east around Kilimanjaro’s northern slopes toward Rongai Third
Cave.

This is a shorter trekking day. By this point in the itinerary,
trekkers should be becoming increasingly acclimatized to the
elevation.

We expect to arrive at Third Cave during the afternoon, allowing time
to rest and prepare for the climb to Kibo Hut.

Starting elevation: 13,188 feet Ending
elevation:
 12,467 feet Distance: Approximately
3.7 miles Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: High alpine Meals: Breakfast,
lunch and dinner

July 8, 2027

Third Cave to Kibo Hut

Today’s route follows a steady incline across the Saddle, the broad
alpine desert located between Kibo and Mawenzi Peak.

We will continue southwest toward Kibo Hut.

After arriving, you will be served lunch and an early dinner before
resting for the summit attempt. The group will be awakened before
midnight to begin the final climb.

Before going to sleep, you will prepare all necessary summit
equipment, including:

  • Warm clothing
  • Insulated water bottles
  • Snacks
  • Headlamp
  • Camera
  • Gloves and additional cold-weather gear

Starting elevation: 12,467 feet Ending
elevation:
 15,510 feet Distance: Approximately
3.1 miles Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Habitat: Alpine desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

July 9, 2027

Kibo Hut to Uhuru
Peak to Millennium Camp

Summit Day

Summit day begins before midnight with hot tea and biscuits.

We will then begin the steep ascent up Kibo under the cover of
darkness. Our first major checkpoint is Hans Meyer Cave, where the group
will take a brief rest.

The climb becomes steeper as we approach Gilman’s Point at
approximately 18,638 feet
. We expect to reach this area around
dawn, providing unforgettable views toward Mawenzi Peak and across the
surrounding landscape.

From Gilman’s Point, the route continues around the crater rim toward
Uhuru Peak.

Uhuru Peak — 19,340 Feet

Reaching Uhuru Peak means standing at the highest point in
Africa.

After celebrating at the summit and taking photographs, we will begin
our descent. We will retrace our route around the crater rim toward
Stella Point and continue down the scree slopes to Barafu Camp.

After a short rest and snacks, we will descend farther to Millennium
Camp for our final night on the mountain.

This is the most physically demanding day of the expedition. Trekkers
may be on the trail for approximately 14–16 hours, making proper pacing,
hydration and nutrition essential.

to Mweka Park Gate.

Conditions at the lower elevations may be wet and muddy. Gaiters and
trekking poles can be helpful, and rain gear should remain accessible
throughout the descent.

At Mweka Gate, successful climbers will receive their summit
certificates.

Our vehicle will then transport the group back to the Pink
